The principles and philosophy that the center is based on come from recent research and developments that have been studied and are being practiced in progressive schools across the United States and Europe.
- Every child is unique. Each child has his own pace of learning and growing, approach to situations, talents and innate capacities.
Since each child is made by his genes and experiences, we cannot expect any two children to have exactly the same learning styles and patterns. Therefore, we provide for a wide range of activities, because we believe that the child must have experiences that are adapted to his needs.
- All aspects of development are interrelated.
We believe the child develops as a whole. Each aspect or area influences and is being influenced by the experiences in other areas. When we plan our programs, we do not focus on intellectual development only. We consider the child as a whole. We plan for her development in the Physical, Social, and Emotional aspects as well.
- Intelligence develops as it is nurtured.
We believe that cognitive development depends on adequate and appropriate mental, physical, emotional and social nourishment that is supplied not only by the school, but also by the home and the community.
- Play is an important avenue for learning and for enjoyment.
We believe that when children play, they use all their senses. It is through play that the child tests, explores, discovers, stores up impressions, classifies, organizes, assimilates and accommodates experiences.
- The child's attitudes and feelings are important in learning and in healthy personality growth.
A child's attitudes and feelings about herself are key factors in her learning and mental healthy. When a child has a healthy sense of self, she can use her capacities to the fullest. At Toddlers Unlimited, we respect the child and her feelings, and help her learn to become aware of her own feelings, so that she may be able to express herself in both constructive and creative ways.
- Understanding, responsible guidance is necessary if the child is to develop to his full potential.
We put a lot of importance on the teacher. She is a key figure in the center, and it is through her that the children will feel at ease in the school. She must be able to build a personal relationship with each child, allowing them to trust in her, so that they may be able to venture forward to explore, learn and grow.
